Band interview on the NJ Underground

by Terrance Pryor

Whether you remember them as an indie punk band or know them for their alternative rock styling,Of Fate and Chance has always been the one band to look out for. I spoke with their drummer Jon Fleck about the band's past, present and future.

1)How long ago didthe bandstart playing music together?

We've been playing music together since we were wee little lads. Then our Irish roots lead us to drinking, but we're not really Irish; except for Sean.

2)What's the meaning behind the band's name?

Fate and chance are two opposites that we believe play important roles in everyone's lives.

3)Where was the band's first show?

At the Northbranch Firehouse, we packed the place with all our friends. PA speakers falling over and everything...

4)What led to the change in the band's sound over the years?

Rather than writing complicated songs that only musicians could appreciate, we wanted to write to songs that anyone could genuinely love.

5)How was the writing/recording process forthe latest CD "An Atlas To Solutions"?

After our tour in 2008 we wrote and demoed for months on end; eventually entering Big Blue Meenie Studios and tracking the album in 12 days...

6)The band just recently had the record release show in New York. How did that go?

It was an amazing show. It was so crazy the promoter was threatening to shut down the show even before we took the stage. People were going wild!

7)What's next for Of Fate and Chance?

Hopefully a long and successful career, because all we want to do is write and perform songs that will stand the test of time.

Of Fate and Chance will be performing at the MMAC in Bloomfield, New Jersey on August 23rd.
